鍋食べたい。
部屋正面の机の前に二つの椅子が設置され、そこに座るよう言われる。私たちがそこに腰掛けると、李さんも書類片手に大きな革張りの椅子に腰を落ち着けた。

礼をしようと席から腰を離すと、後ろからの同じ高さの2音がそれを途中で止めさせた。
「主人先生，吃飯的準備就緒了。

李さんも書類を置いて立ち上がる。
「I'll offer you food served in a pot. The cook's feed in my house is good.
（今夜は鍋をご馳走しよう。私の家の料理人の飯は美味いぞ。）」

（ありがたく頂きます）」

（食堂はこっちだ。）」
部屋から出ると、女の召使いが我々を待っていた。手にはロウソク。あたりの土壁をボゥっと柔らかく照らし出す。本格的に暗くなった建物の中を進んでいくと、一際大きな扉の前で止まった。
重そうなドアを真ん中に立った召使いが力強く両方一気に開ける。中から湯気が漏れることはないが、確かに四角い机の上に置かれた鍋は蓋が置かれており、穴から湯気が噴き出している。

（美味しそうな鍋ですね。）」

（勿論だ。）」
私たちが扉側、李さんが奥に座り、召使いがそれぞれの椀に中身をよそる。間も無く他の方がノックの後後ろから現れた。
「亲爱的。
（妻よ。）」

（遅れて悪かったわ。彼女らがお客様？）」
「對了。
（そうだ。）」
「她們非常看上去年輕。
（随分と若い方々ね。）」
彼女が李さんの隣へ回る間、右へ回っていた首が元に戻る。

我々は一応軽く席を立って礼をする。
「我是郭。貴女人們看上去年輕。是幾歲嗎？
（郭です。本当に若いわね。お幾つ？）」
「以17歲同歲。
（17歳で同い年です。）」

そこに李さんが割って入り、残り3人はすぐさま席に着いた。既に椀だけではなくグラスも用意されており、白い飲み物が注がれている。

「乾杯！」
私たちは杯の飲み物を飲み干す。食事の機会はかなりあった為、こういうものも少しは慣れた。若干腹に熱がこもるが、食えば楽になるだろう。
「What kind of pot is today?
（今日はどのような鍋なんですか？）」
「A pot of river fish, meat and taro potato.
（川魚と肉と里芋の鍋だ。）」
「What is the meat?
（肉？）」
「Dog meat.
