笑った。
目を閉じて、しかし彼女の顔は天井を向いている。そして笑った。不可解な光景だ。大の男たち、しかも軍人が混ざっている、に囲まれた中でたった一人のか弱い少女が、さらに言えばついさっきやんわりながら脅された状況で声を出して笑い始めたのだ。大の男たちは目を点にして互いに顔を見合わせる。

（……何が可笑しい？）」
陳が、問う。分からない。いや、分からないのではない、はずだ。

（何が！）」
顔は斜め下、彼女の正面にいる陳の足元に戻るが、右手を相変わらず口に当てている。見下されたと感じた陳はその場の男を代弁して声を張り上げる。少女は、口から手をどかした。

不気味だ。これがさっきまでの少女だったというのか。なんなら扉の向こうの者たちを呼んでもいいのだが、呼んだ方がいいのか。

李は左右に首を振る。
「お前じゃないのか？」
「俺じゃないさ。単にあれ位のことも出来なければ、我々の上についてこの両広を指導するのは難しい、というだけさ。」
